Dufton Retrofit

At Dufton, we collaborated closely with the client to reimagine this bungalow and retrofit it themselves, bringing it into the future and future-proofing it for years to come. The vision was to enhance the internal layout of the property while transitioning towards a net-zero future. The house is undergoing a comprehensive renovation, starting with stripping it back to a blank slate. We redesigned the layout, incorporating internal insulation ranging from 25 to 50mm thickness, and installed new radiators sized to accommodate a new air source heat pump system.

Improving the layout

Existing floor plan

The original floor plan was cramped and confusing. Working closely with the client, we redesigned the layout to better suit their needs and preferences.

Proposed floor plan

The new floor plan optimises the space, creating a functional living room and dining area with shared wood burner in the old chimney. New kitchen with double doors onto the garden bringing light into the space. Additionally, the bathroom has expanded to include a spacious walk-in shower where a cupboard from the old dining room used to be. Removing the fireplace in the bedroom allowed for a more comfortable arrangement for accommodating the bed.
